It has been well said that "To
accept the Future, you must give up the Past".
Strategists, problem solvers
must search, select and consider “paradoxes” as
the first “indicators” of change, telling us where
the past must be given up, and in which direction
- lies the new optimum solution Equality could
also thus be considered as the point where there
is “no more” benefit for linear improvement as
per the past. The concept of Relative Saturation
should be applicable to our social inputs, laws
and expected theories.
A continuous, repetitive “input”
will at some stage create Relative Satuaration
and put an end to orderly behaviour and pattern.
Then, chaos would be forthcoming. The first non-patterned,
unexpected behaviour based on continuation of
“old inputs” is the “indicator”. This “indicator”
is the “paradox” that starts to appear earlier
than the state of chaos.
So if a Paradox shows the First
effects of change, its recurrence could be a first
warning of chaos. We can avoid what we call “Chaos”
and convert it to just an event, - a natural transition.
Management could alter its inputs and design its
systems to anticipate the event in advance and
make it easier. Human response would be more civil,
reducing the current social response to change
- 'Conflict'.
While the “scientific” relevance
of “chaos” is today a subject of great study and
research, conflict is our current symptom of “chaos”
and “change” - and is a key issue that prevents
progress and growth.
Conflict is no longer an “intangible”
emotional response that requires merely psycho
- analyses. It is a real tangible force that is
the common symptom in almost all manmade structures.
Today Conflict prevents the
integration of human resources and our society.
It is thus a “management” problem - not just a
social issue.
Before analysing conflict, it
is important to emphasize the link between
chaos and the “continuous use of old inputs”.
Continued inputs seem to obviously
put an end to orderly behaviour and pattern at
a point of “equalisation”. This is referred
to as “Relative Saturation”. A point where
the “result” must change!
CRIME IS A COMMON EXAMPLE
OF AN “UNSOLVABLE PROBLEM”.
PARADOX TOOLS show that with rampant and increasing
crime we can no longer expect or wait for people
to change or reform; and therefore it has to be
the Law, our definition of Crime, and of democracy
( see ENLARGING DEMOCRACY) that will have to be
changed and varied to protect society. The extent
of variation will again be dependant on the “stage”
of devlopment, literacy and awareness within the
society iat THE time. Since “democracy” is almost
always the common aspiration, the various stages
and methodology for democratisation can infact
be committed if documented into a “how to” Manual.
A law of “Fair Equity” would
then be the only standard before “Democracy” can
be implemented.
How Paradox
can help equalize Perceptions:
In the last 2 decades the AK
- 46/47 has perhaps killed more persons than the
Nuclear Bomb and caused more violence and death
compared to all the Wars ( excluding atrocities)
YET While everyone who has a
Nuclear Bomb or the capability or the intention
is being very closely and correctly watched. No
one is concerned about who owns, buys or even
makes the AK 47. What we do have is an elaborate
system design intended to protect the entire population
from an attack!!
Would it be cheaper and easier
to monitor - the production and sales of AK 47’s
- to monitor or restrict the usage compared to
the cost of providing protection to the potential
victims? It becomes easy to include such issues
within ‘individual and democratic rights’ BUT
if ECONOMICS is the controller than there is little
that democracy can do IF it is unaffordable for
countries like India to provide protection to
the ‘potential victim’. We in Asia have little
option but to focus on the weapon and the potential
user!!!
Linear logic in the developed
world has permitted proliferation to a point where
the “Gun-Lobby” and “economics of war production”
have made a mockery of Democracy.
Whatever the objection, or ridicule
of such a thought - ultimately it must be the
“ECONOMIC COST” to society that will force and
decide the change.
In rich nations like the USA
this decision cannot be taken because it seemingly
violates individual democratic rights. While this
paradox may appear illogical to the victim and
the poor; we as a society will have to wait for
even greater damage before change is considered
( another Paradox)!!. NLT can change this!
^top
Paradox Tools
to justify Change:
Since more than 60% of crime
is committed by past or forecastable offenders
– Non Linear Thinking considers it necessary that
we acknowledge this to be a failure of the law
first, rather than the inadequacy of the correction/punishment
system!
What does Linear logic say?
It would say that we need MORE
Policemen, MORE Prisons, and Stricter enforcement
of the laws. ( AS they consider and do in the
US) Why?
Because crime has been listed
and defined as an illegal act within the definition
of A LAW!
BUT original Laws were designed
to prevent irrational, unusual, unacceptable behaviours.
(As per society’s perception at that time ).
A law breaker was therefore always
assumed and expected to be a relatively small
minority. This has changed in this Non Linear
Era!!!
Now if more and more people increasingly
break the law - should we keep adding enforcement
or should we question the law and its method of
enforcement?
If 20 years ago 0.1% of the population
broke a law , and today 10% break the law. Do
we still say that the law is correct, or do we
need to look as its relevance? 10% in a Non Linear
era is no longer a minority. Given the intent,
focus and tools - 10% criminal activity can become
far stronger than the balance 90% who are divided
and preoccupied within their individual quests!!!
The turnover from crime is now MORE than the combined
turnover of the TOP 5 industry groups in the World!!
We are in a Non Linear era -
where the logic of number’s do not add - up in
the same way!
Non Linear Thinking and Paradox
Tools are self indicative of the need for change
and the solutions!!!
