MEDIOCRITY OVER EXCELLENCE
 
  • Our Linear education systems, are designed to be “batch-learning modules” that have a determinable output. They assume that you study as a student and learn (input) as much as you can , for as long as you can afford the cost and time. Then depending on how successful you were within competition; this learning (Input) should provide you the economic return and means for your whole “life” (output). A kind of neat and logical throughput formula, that aimed to separate the ‘learning years from the earning years’.
  • This no longer seems sustainable with faster obsolescence and reduced lifecycle of technology, changing consumer needs, markets and hence THE NEED FOR NEW SKILL SETS. Batch education is insufficient because it is paradoxically “too extensive based on the assumption that knowledge and experience are separate needs."
  • The Non Linear Era requires us to accept that the future requires a greater need for APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE, and paradoxically a lesser need to “just have knowledge”. Knowledge is increasingly being converted to information with a reducing economic value for basic knowledge. (This does not imply or infer the reducing need for knowledge. This is merely to forecast that there will be a lower “economic return when compared to the application of that knowledge”.)
  • The future will require a “broader vision compared to the current focus on specialty learning”.
  • "EXCELLENCE" AS WE KNOW IT WILL REQUIRE TO BE REDEFINED. NARROW FOCUS EDUCATION WILL HAVE TO GIVE WAY TO “BROADER AWARENESS.”
  • The length of education as a BATCH-learning will have to be replaced with INCREASED FREQUENCY OF SHORTER DURATION LEARNING to insure continued economic return (somewhat similar to what we call "training").
  • A stable future is dependant on the ability of our education systems to “prepare our youth for uncertainty where they will accept the need to RELEARN Knowledge when change requires it!"
  • Its value will have to be “qualified by its timely need and not its quantum." Education will require Less Learning and More Application.
  • MEDIOCRITY OF THE PAST COULD BE THE EXCELLENCE OF THE FUTURE!

Start to think of yourself as a valuable asset, not similar to others BUT unique. There is a better future where there is more opportunity for more persons; and where success is NOT going to be based on “what you know or what you knew; BUT HOW YOU APPLY YOURSELF IN THE GIVEN SITUATION."
